Obama job approval rating falls

The US President, Mr Barack Obama’s job approval rating has dipped below the 50 per cent mark, the first time after he was sworn in January this year.

The latest Gallup Daily tracking results, released on Friday said that 49 per cent of Americans approve of the job Mr Obama is doing as the President, putting him below the majority approval level for the first time in his presidency.

Gallup said the ongoing, contentious debate over national healthcare reform and the continued economic crisis are the possible reasons for the drop in his popularity ratings.
Although the current decline below 50 per cent has symbolic significance, most of the recent decline in support for Mr Obama occurred in July and August.

He began July at 60 per cent approval. Of the post-World War II presidents, Mr Obama is the fourth fastest to drop below the majority approval level, doing so in his 10th month on the job. Gerald Ford dropped below 50 per cent approval during his third month in office, and Mr Bill Clinton did so in his fourth month.

Ronald Reagan, like Mr Obama, also dropped below 50 per cent in his 10th month in office, though Reagan’s drop occurred a few days sooner in that month (November 13 to 16, 1981) than did Obama’s (November 17 to 19, 2009).
“I am not surprised by the demise here because the expectations I think were really unrealistic,” veteran pollster, Syracuse University’s Jeffrey Stonecash, said.

Inifinity Wards, Unbeaten!!

Well, it is a spectacular month for gamers. Reason is, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 has already hit the market and Assassin's Creed is about to hit the market with improved game-play, which was a small drawback in previous installment. Lets talk about Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. To be honest, I never thought this game will meet the expectations because the expectation were just too high. With Modern Warfare being a massive hit and set a milestone, the expectation was sky high. But I now know what I thought is a big mistake. The game proved Infinity Wards cannot be beaten with all the stats, it has biggest first 5 days collection of all entertainments including games, movies and books which is $550m, with more than 8 million copies sold out already all over the World. Its now set a record of best entertainment launch in the history. But there is one question unanswered. Is the massive hit just a commercial one and did they fail to win the hearts of PC gamers with no dedicated servers? I would say YES!! which might make the game forgotten in months time unlike Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare which is still being played (even after 2 years) all over the World. Seems like they don't care about it as long as they get money.

Modern Bribe!!

It was 5 years ago, we bought a washing machine from one of the leading company in the world. We loved the machine as it outperformed most of the machines in the market. We had one or two problems with the machine and was rectified in-time and with perfection(I wonder now). Here starts the story of modern bribe.

3 months earlier,
Our machine stops working. My mom calls the customer care and a service guy attends the complaint. He says "the motor is damaged and need 75 USD(approx.) to replace the motor." He also suggests my mom, "why do you want to waste money rather you can do it with AMC which costs 35 USD(approx.) less? Just start an AMC now I will fix this problem temporarily and call me after 3 months and I will replace the old motor with a new one". My mom was not satisfied and she replies "No just replace the motor and I will pay for the spare". Service man replies "Take your time and decide" and leaves. Mom is not convinced even the next day. The service person comes the next day and tries to convince again. Even though my mom is not convinced he doesn't let my mom to pay for the spare rather he wants my mom to start AMC. He does the same on 3rd day also so my mom has no other go and agrees.

Day before yesterday.
Machine has problems again. Machine runs only with 60% of max load. So i called customer care and lodged a compliant. Another service person visits and makes sure the motor has 0 damage and the problem is with belt which is not covered under AMC, though we changed the belt very first year when we are under AMC and they did it for free(the one and only AMC we had before).

I'm sharing this just to create awareness before being brainwashed by these modern cheaters. Even though the company produces a quality product, they lose their reputation because of these cheaters. Companies also should take care before they lose too many customers(hoping higher authorities don't support this).

Indian-American to head USAID

US President Barack Obama has nominated Indian-American Rajiv Shah to head US Agency for International Development (USAID).

The post of Administrator, of the federal agency responsible for all non-military aid by the US, had been kept vacant by the Obama Administration so far.

If Congress confirms the nomination of Shah - who at present is the Under Secretary for Research, Education and Economics and Chief Scientist at the US Department of Agriculture - then he would possibly become the highest ranking Indian-American in any US Administration.

"Rajiv brings fresh ideas and the dedication and impressive background necessary to help guide USAID as it works to achieve this important goal," Obama said in a statement announcing his decision to nominate Shah as the Administrator of USAID yesterday.

The mission of USAID is to advance US' interests by strengthening our relationships abroad.

"I look forward to working with Rajiv in the months and years ahead," Obama said.

Shah, presently, manages the Agricultural Research Service, the Economic Research Service, the National Agricultural Statistical Service and the National Institute of Food and Agriculture in the US Department of Agriculture with more than 10,000 staff worldwide including 2,200 federal scientists and a budget of more than $2.6 billion.

US man gets prison for aiming laser at planes

A Southern California man who aimed a laser beam at two airliners as they approached an airport has been sentenced to 2 1/2 years in federal prison for disrupting the flights.

The US Attorney's Office in Los Angeles says Dana Christian Welch of Orange, who was sentenced on Tuesday, was the first person in the US to be convicted at trial of interfering with pilots by aiming lasers at their planes.

Authorities say the 37-year-old aimed a handheld laser at two Boeing jets as the passenger planes were about to land at John Wayne Airport on the night of May 21, 2008.

The laser beam struck one pilot in the eye, causing "flash blindness," and interfered with pilots' ability to land the other plane.
